IS NEXTON A SIGN OF A DARK FUTURE?

Rising home costs, traffic, high demand, and low inventory. With so many problems present in the real estate world right now, what is a developer to do? After visiting Nexton, I witnessed one solution to all of these: maximum suburban sprawl miles away from a city. Nexton is a nice community, and it caters to a portion of homebuyers who have been kept out of Charleston with increasingly high home prices, but Nexton does show how the future of home buying and development is on a dark path. Nexton is so far outside of Charleston that the developers are developing a town to accompany the needs of residents, showing that markets right now are completely disenfranchising people from living in Charleston just because they can't afford to buy a house in the core metro area. Nexton is also solving the issue of low supply by building houses at a stupendous rate, though this is achieved through the use of cookie-cutter homebuilding. To meet the demands of the current market, developers have to cut corners and have their projects lose uniqueness. This is not to say that Nexton is a bad place to live, and I am arguing quite the opposite, as I am bringing up how the development tries to tackle almost every problem in the market all at once, leading to interesting results.
